How could you use the product 108 and 4 to find the product of 324 and 4?

How would I know that you need to multiply times 3. How are the children given directions to work on this problem. I know understand 108 goes into 324 3 times. But are they asked to divide the number.

No, the kids, are being led to look for multilples of 108, not division. Two times 108 is 216, three times 108 is 324
