Homework Help Forum: philosophy

Posted by marie on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 9:13pm.

what are some principle issues for free will?

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 9:17pm

Do you have free-will? Are you ordained by the gods to react in specific ways? Or are your genes or your parents responsible?

Please clarify your question and we'll be glad to help you.

i need to do a 11-15 slide power point and i need 3-4 principle issues on my topic which is free will and i do not know how to get started i feel if i can get some help with the principle issues maybe i can do the rest

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 9:44pm

Obviously this assignment is to assess your understanding of free will from your assigned readings.

Which principle issues have you found?

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 9:53pm

    1. determinism
    2. free will or no free will
that is what i have so far

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:00pm

    Keep looking.

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:04pm

i thought you were here to help at least point me in the right way

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:12pm

    I did.

I pointed you in the direction of your assigned reading materials.

Since your question asks you to present 3 or 4 issues about free will, I assume that they are covered in your text materials.

What is free will? If you go out and get drunk tonight -- is that because of your free will? your friends' influence? your genetic predisposition for alcohol abuse? overwhelming emotional problems?

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:14pm

    all the above

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:17pm

so what are trying to tell me how does that help me

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:25pm

I've been trying to help you understand the concept free will.

    Obviously I failed.

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:27pm

but the problem is i think there is a fine line on our free will we are do not have free will over everything but that still don't help me on the principle issues

  • philosophy - DrBob222, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:30pm

Here is a site that may help you.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_will

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:36pm

Under what circumstances can you exercise free will?

Under what circumstances is your free will limited?

Under what circumstances do you have no free will?

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:39pm

exercise free will by lets say the clothes you wear.
the laws limit your free will

death uless it is suicide that is were you do not have free will

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:45pm

  • philosophy - marie, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:49pm

    thank you

  • philosophy - Ms. Sue, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:52pm

You're welcome, and good luck on your presentation.
