In my case, my mother began teaching me around 4 years of age. Have you seen the Oprah TV show where a young boy of around 5 is already composing his own pieces? Good luck! The piano is the very best instrument to begin with. Of course, your daughter may not be able to read music yet, although there is a wonderful cardboard scale to post behind the keys and that is very helpful.

Be sensitive to the difference between your desires for your daughter and her desires. After a few months of lessons, she and you will know better her desires. I agree 4-5 is a good age to start.
