The only thing I found was in my Unabridged Dictionary. It may be a uterine cotyledon.
If you post three or four sentences that use "button" in context with the central nervous system, I'll be glad to try and figure it out from the context.

I had to do an exercise on the central nervous system. there is a part that is called buttons, I cannot find the defintion anywhere
Please ask your instructor. I found no other reference to it.

Are you referring to "boutons"? (Spelling makes a difference.)
