this is a right triangle
the base is 12ft
hypotenuse is 36ft
x^2 + 12^2 = 36^2
x^2 = 36^2 - 12^2
x^2 = 1152
x = 33.9ft
the pole is 33.9ft + 3ft = 36.9ft
