Question : Matthew Antony, Grant’s former teacher tells him, “What do you know about life?” He tells him, “ You have to go away to know life.” – What does this mean to you?

I need some pointers to help me answer my question... (like extra ideas)

My first thought is that you need to get out of your usual environment to know about life. Moving from a rural to an urban area or moving from one country to another is what "away" means to me.

He also could mean that you have to get away from being self-centered and empathize with many diverse people.

okay but what i'd like to know is why is it important for someone to be able to interact in society, don't they think that they feel happy enough???

To know about life, most people need to interact with society. If they don't, they only know their own limited environment and nothing about other people and things.

Even Henry Thoreau, who spent 16 months by himself at Walden Pond, had occasional visitors -- and then went home to Concord where he interacted with other people.

okay thanks I was really stuck with that one XD

You're welcome.

To help you answer the question, "What does 'You have to go away to know life' mean to you?", here are some pointers and extra ideas:

1. Reflection on personal experiences: Think about instances in your own life where going away from familiar surroundings gave you a new perspective or deeper understanding of life. Consider times when traveling, studying abroad, or spending time in a different culture brought about personal growth or a broader worldview.

2. Observations of others: Reflect on stories you have heard or witnessed where people gained valuable life insights by stepping outside their comfort zones and exploring new environments. This could include examples from literature, movies, or real-life anecdotes.

3. Understanding the limitations of familiarity: Consider whether staying in one place or never venturing out can potentially hinder personal growth or limit exposure to diverse perspectives. Explore how embracing new experiences and leaving behind the familiar can foster personal development and expand one's understanding of life.

4. Embracing the unknown: Reflect on how taking risks and embracing uncertainty can lead to self-discovery and a deeper understanding of life. Consider the idea that exposing oneself to unfamiliarity and challenges can help develop resilience, adaptability, and a more holistic perspective on life.

5. Recognizing the value of change and exploration: Explore how change and exploration can offer opportunities to confront new situations, meet different people, and learn from a variety of perspectives. Consider how stepping out of one's comfort zone can lead to personal growth and a more well-rounded understanding of life.

By considering these pointers and reflecting on personal experiences or stories that resonate with you, you can develop a meaningful answer to the question and share your own interpretation of what "You have to go away to know life" means to you.
