The difference of three times a number and 5 is 40. Find the number.

3x  5 = 40
3x = 45
x = ??

No. How can three times 42  5 = 40?
3x  5 = 40
Add 5 to both sides of the equation.
3x = 45
Divide both sides of the equation by 3.
x = ?? 
the answer would be 15 becuase when you divide 45 by 3 you would get 15
