Why do gases deviate from ideal behavior at very high pressures?

One assumption is that gases do not occupy any volume but real gases do. A second assumption is that individual gas molecules have no attraction for each other but in the real world they are attracted to each other. At very high pressure, gas molecules are pushed closer and closer together; therefore, both of the assumptions comer into play and the result is a deviation from ideal behavior.
