Put both equations in the form of a straight line which is y = mx + b and determine m for each line. If m is the same, the lines are parallel.

y = (5/4)x + 10/4
and
y = (4/5)x + 3/5
not the same slope because 5/4 is not 4/5
not perpendicular because (5/4)/(4/5) is not 1 (it is +1)
