**Reiny**, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 11:35amIf your question is

√(9x+81) = x+5

square both sides

9x+81 = x^2 + 10x + 25

x^2 + x - 56 = 0

(x+8)(x-7) = 0

x = -8 or x = 7

A quick check will show that only x=7 is a valid answer
