Im currently learning Exponential Growth and Decay and there is one problem that I don't understand...
From this: 30/9, how do they get to this result: 3 1/3 ?
Using a calculator, divide 30 by 9. The answer is 3.33333. That is the same as 3 1/3.
You can also work this out as a fraction. Divide 30 by 9. You get 3 and 3/9 which reduces to 3 1/3.
thank you :)
To understand how to get the result 3 1/3 from the fraction 30/9, we can follow these steps:
Step 1: Divide the numerator (30) by the denominator (9):
30 ÷ 9 = 3.333333...
Step 2: The result is a decimal. To convert it to a mixed number (a whole number and a fraction), we need to find the fractional part by subtracting the whole number:
3.333333... - 3 = 0.333333...
Step 3: Since the fractional part is a recurring decimal that goes on forever, we can simplify it by expressing it as a fraction. Let's call the fractional part x:
x = 0.333333...
Step 4: Multiply both sides of the equation by 10 (since there is only one digit after the decimal point) to eliminate the decimal:
10x = 3.333333...
Step 5: Subtract the equation 10x = 3.333333... from the equation x = 0.333333... :
10x - x = 3.333333... - 0.333333...
This simplifies to:
9x = 3
Step 6: Now, solve for x by dividing both sides by 9:
x = 3/9
Step 7: Simplify the fraction 3/9:
3/9 can be simplified by dividing both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor, which is 3:
3 ÷ 3 / 9 ÷ 3 = 1/3
Step 8: Now, combine the whole number (3) and simplified fraction (1/3):
3 1/3
Therefore, the fraction 30/9 is equal to the mixed number 3 1/3.
