i am helping my fifth grader with her journal homework. She has to write about James and the Giant Peach. She needs to describe 3 events but doesn't remeber the story. I don't know it and don't have the book. Can you help

As a retired teacher, I suggest you take this time to help teach your daughter a more important lesson than one day of journal homework.

Since she doesn't remember three events and doesn't have the book, she can't do the assignment tonight.

She may learn from whatever penalty her teacher imposes the importance of being prepared.

Then -- tomorrow or over the weekend -- you can get a copy of the book from your library, and have your daughter reread it. Then she can do her journal entry and turn it in. This will probably be a lower grade, but if your daughter learns from this experience, the grade on this one assignment isn't very important.
