Hi,

I made the changes suggested on my last post for the first paragraph. I type another paragraph and I would please like it to be proofread as well. Thanks! :)

The author of the article defines resilience as the individual’s capacity to minimize or overcome adversity. One of the three main resources of resilience the author describes is called “I HAVE” which is the child’s available external support resources. These resources provide the child with a sense of security and safety. The second resource is called “I AM”. This is when a child relies on his or her own personal feelings, strengths, and beliefs. The last resource she describes is called “I CAN”. This is the child’s social skills and interpersonal skills learned through communication and interaction.

The author provides many examples that explain the three main resources of resilience. She also mentions how children who are younger will experience the “I HAVE” resource more frequently compared to an older child. As children age, they rely more on the “I AM” resource as well as the “I CAN” resource. The author also provides examples of activities and opportunities parents can provide to their child to help promote resilience. Some of the activities and opportunities the author suggests parents fulfill with their children include, emotional support, clear rules with clear consequences, model behavior, encourage problem solving along with praise, and unconditional love. The author concludes her article be expressing the multiple factors that are attributed to resilience, such as genetics and the child’s temperament.

Is there any chance I can post the website of this article. It is short. I just want to know if I'm summarizing it correctly.

Post it like this:

w w w (dot) google (dot) com

W_W_W*e-bility* com/articles/child_resiliance*php

*= dot

Our professor wants us to summarize a web article that is casual, one that would be read by non-child development people.

The author provides many examples that explain the three main resources of resilience. She also mentions how children who are younger<~~younger than whom? will experience the “I HAVE” resource more frequently compared to an older child.<~~older = ?? As children age, they rely more on the “I AM” resource as well as the “I CAN” resource. The author also provides examples of activities and opportunities parents can provide<~~"provide" is used twice in this sentence; replace one of them to their child<~~all those parents out there have only one child? to help promote resilience. Some of the activities and opportunities the author suggests parents fulfill<~~"fulfill" is not quite the right word here; what else will work well? with their children include,<~~delete comma emotional support, clear rules with clear consequences, model behavior, encourage problem solving along with praise, and unconditional love.<~~This series is not parallel; all elements of any series need to be the same part of speech and/or the same pattern of words* The author concludes her article be<~~?? expressing the multiple factors that are attributed to resilience, such as genetics and the child’s temperament.<~~again, only one child? only one temperament?

*You have
~~emotional support, [adjective and noun]
~~clear rules with clear consequences, [adjective, noun, and prepositional phrase]
~~model behavior, [verb and noun (or is it adjective and noun?)]
~~encourage problem solving along with praise, [verb and compound noun (which needs to be hyphenated) and prepositional phrase]
~~and unconditional love [adjective and noun]

Choose one pattern and stick with it. Here are some webpages on parallel construction:

The author of the article defines resilience as the individual’s capacity to minimize or overcome adversity. One of the three main resources of resilience the author describes is called “I HAVE”<~~add comma before the closing quotation marks which is the child’s available external support resources. These resources provide the child with a sense of security and safety. The second resource is called “I AM”.<~~move the period; it should be before the closing quotation marks This is when a child relies on his or her own personal feelings, strengths, and beliefs. The last resource she describes is called “I CAN”.<~~?? This is the child’s social skills and interpersonal skills learned through communication and interaction.

Sounds good.

Thank you for your suggestions. They are very helpful! :)

Your summarizing of the article is good. Just be careful that you're not repeating any exact phrases used by the author.

An example:

Read the first three paragraphs and the sample paragraph right above version A. Then skip down to Version D, and read both it and the explanation.

Sure! Here is the proofread version of your paragraph:

The author of the article defines resilience as an individual's capacity to minimize or overcome adversity. One of the three main resources of resilience that the author describes is called "I HAVE," which refers to the child's available external support resources. These resources provide the child with a sense of security and safety. The second resource is called "I AM," where a child relies on their own personal feelings, strengths, and beliefs. The last resource she describes is called "I CAN," which refers to the child's social skills and interpersonal skills acquired through communication and interaction.
