I would never use a strong alkali to neutralize an acid (strong acid OR weak acid)BECAUSE an excess of strong alkali after the acid has been neutralized is just as corrosive as the acid might have been had it been left alone. I would use something like sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3--baking soda) to neutralize an acid.
