Ray's son, Martin, plays for the mnor league baseball team, The Cow-A-Bungas. He is the star player, and outfielder with a batting average of 0.340. (Batting average is the ratio of the number of times a player gets a hit to the number of times at bat.) If Martin was at bat 570 times during the season, how many hits did he get? Remember that batting average is based on the number of hits out of 1000.

Use a proportion to solve the problem.

.340 * 570 = 194

note 194/570 = .3403508772
which is as close as you will get to 340/1000
