Most people who give money away act on a combination of altruism, self-interest, and economic principles.
She obviously really believed in funding a leprosarium and was behaving altruistically in donating her prize.
She also probably felt good about donating her award to it and so had a selfish interest in this donation.
I have no idea about her tax structure -- but it's likely that she derived some economic benefit from this donation.
