Assume the floor of the tent is a square. Consider the right triangle formed by a vertical line at the center (8 ft), a horizontal line from a corner to the center of the floor (6sqrt2 feet) and a (hypotenuse) side support rod. I get sqrt 136 = 11.66 feet for each of the four side support poles. If the corners are staked, only those four poles are needed.
