okay i am comepletely stuck on this math prob....:
x + 5y - 10 = 0
x = 2y - 8

i know the answer is
-20/7 , 18/7
but i have no idea how they got it so
someone
PLZ HELP!!!!

  • math - ,

    The second equation is telling you what x is..since it says " x=2y-8" this tells you that wherever you see an x you can replace it with that equation, so you would get:
    (2y-8)+5y-10=0
    so then you would just solve for y to get 18/7. So now you know what y is you can put that answer in either equation and solve for x. for example:
    x=2(18/7)-8
    so x=-20/7
