how do i use excel to plot a graph then find x from the slope of a line? y=mx+b. I want to find X:

X=y-b/m. How do i do this using excel?

I am trying to find x, which is the protein in mg. I know why will represent absorption. What will i put for m and b for my values? I know one axis is y for absorbance, i don't know what other values to put in for the rest of the graph.

I have never done this; however, I went to my Excel program, clicked on the question mark in the tool bar(help but not help at the top of the page written as help) and typed "plot data" without the quotation marks. There are a number of choices but one I chose was "Create XY and line charts." The instructions sounded like directions for plotting data. Others listed may be more what you are seeking. I hope this helps.

To plot a graph and find the value of X using the slope of a line equation (y = mx + b) in Excel, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter the data
1. Open a blank Excel worksheet.
2. Enter your data points for the x-axis (X) and the corresponding y-axis (Y) values. Make sure to have at least two data points to plot a line.

Step 2: Create the scatter plot
1. Select the range of data points you entered.
2. Go to the "Insert" tab in the Excel menu.
3. Under the "Charts" section, click on the "Scatter" chart type and choose the appropriate scatter plot style.

Step 3: Add a trendline and find the slope
1. Right-click on any data point in the plot and select "Add Trendline."
2. In the "Format Trendline" pane on the right side, choose the "Linear" trendline type.
3. Check the "Display Equation on Chart" and "Display R-squared Value on Chart" options.
4. The equation displayed on the chart will be in the form of "y = mx + b," where "m" represents the slope.

Step 4: Calculate X using the slope
1. Identify the value of "b" from the equation.
2. Determine the value of "m" (slope) from the trendline equation.
3. Substitute the known values of "y" and "m" into the formula X = (y - b) / m to calculate X.

By following these steps, you can plot a graph, find the slope of the line, and then calculate the value of X using Excel.
