Homework Help: math

ok so I know this may sound really dumb but I have a question about simple translations/ scale changes. Ok so lets say I have a problem that says shrink X but a factor of 2. So now I have to do graph, rule, and sentance but this is where I get confused: I know one of them is the opposite(like it will say 2x instead of x/2)...which one is that?

that means 2 times x but u have to find out what the x is first!!!!!!!!!!!
