I will assume this is what you mean:
40 = [(x+2.8)/2]*8.5
= (0.5x*8.5) + (1.4*8.5)
= 4.25 x + 11.9
4.25x = 28.1
x = 6.612
how would you solve for x? can you explain step by step?
