Thank-you but Ms. Sue I remember reading something about Dreadnaughts and U-boats. Where those specific ships or was that the general name of ships from that counrty?

U-boats were German submarines. Of course they also used other kinds of ships.

Dreadnought was a specific ship used by the British in WWI. It apparently was a class of battleship used in both wars.

:-) You're very welcome.

Actually, there seems to be a mistake in your answer. The British used U-boats in World War II. U-boats, short for Unterseeboot, were German submarines, not British. The British, on the other hand, utilized a variety of different types of ships during WWII.

The British Royal Navy had a wide range of warships, including battleships, aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and submarines. Battleships such as the Queen Elizabeth class and King George V class were part of the British naval fleet. Aircraft carriers like the HMS Ark Royal and HMS Eagle played a significant role in supporting British naval operations.

Cruisers like the County-class cruisers and Edinburgh-class cruisers were used for a variety of purposes including fleet protection, escort duties, and anti-aircraft defense. Destroyers, such as the Tribal class and J-class destroyers, were employed for anti-submarine warfare, convoy protection, and screening larger capital ships. Additionally, the British deployed various types of submarines, including the T-class submarines and S-class submarines.

On the other side, the German Navy, known as the Kriegsmarine, had different types of ships as well. They did have battleships, but the famous ones were known as the Bismarck and Tirpitz. They were technically superior to most battleships of their time. The German Navy also utilized cruisers, such as the Admiral Hipper-class and Leipzig-class cruisers.

Moreover, Germany had U-boats as previously mentioned. These submarines were a significant part of the German naval war effort and played a crucial role in the Battle of the Atlantic. The U-boats were highly effective in attacking and sinking enemy ships, including both military vessels and merchant convoys.

Overall, both the British and German navies utilized various types of ships during World War II, each serving different purposes and roles in their respective naval strategies.
