how do i do a problem like this and other problems like this:

Write an equation in point-slope form of the line that passes through the given point and has the given slope.

(-8,-2) M=2

y = mx + b

y is -2
slope (m) is 2
x is -8.
Plug in the numbers. Solve for b.
Then write y = 2x + (value for b)

so it would be y+2=(X+8)?

That does not look like y = m x + b

i said POINT SLOPE FORM y+M=x+x

He said

y = m x + b
then since slope is 2
y = 2x + b
then he put x, y and m in
-2 = 2(-8) + b
Now solve for b

but that is slope intersept form not point slope form

then

(y-Y1) = m (x -X1)

y - (-2) = 2 (x - (-8) )

y +2 = 2(x+8)

so would it be y+2=2(x+8)????

Yes.
