I need to find a picture of 2 paintings: Crimson Rambler by Philip Hale and Automat by Edward Hopper. I also need some assistance with this assignment involving these two paintings. I have to outline a story I would write about the woman in the paintings(I'm supposed to pretend they are the same lady). What historical events happened between 1909 and 1927 that affected the woman's life? Please help this is a complicated assignment.

What a great assignment!

So many things happened between 1909 and 1927 for women.

Cars became popular and some women learned to drive. Because of cars, people could travel farther away to shop and visit.

World War I brought many women to work outside the home because so many men went to war. The growth of industries caused many people to move from rural to urban areas.

This was the first generation of women to cut their hair short and wear pants and short skirts.

The women's suffrage act, passed in 1920 gave women the right to vote.

By the way, the woman in Hale's picture could be my grandmother, and the woman in Hopper's could be my mother. This is a favorite era of mine because my mother was the first of the "modern woman."

These sites contain copies of the paintings plus statistics on the move to cities plus a timeline of the women's movement.

I hope you enjoy writing the story.

A couple more thoughts --

My grandmother (born 1879) lived in very small towns all of her life and never worked outside her home. She only went through 8th grade. She once told me that she wouldn't have dreamed of dancing with a boy without her corsets on. In contrast my mother (born 1905) lived her adult life in large cities and worked most of it outside the home. My mother was a college graduate. She was also a flapper and wore a minimum of underclothing. <g>
