I suggest you read the book, and not wait until the last minute to start. Your teacher is having you write the report in class to ensure you are not a slacker (ie, didnt read the book, dont care, just want a good grade). It helps to get the reading done early, so you can discuss the book with others, and argue out details of analysis.
