Please help! I need a case of scientific fraud where the scientist was working alone and unwilling to cooperate/get reviewed by other scientists. (the standard of openness must apply)

Every so often you see people trying to patent or in perpetual motion "free energy" machines that run on water, or nothing at all. Some are frauds, and some are honest but naive.
