Would it be appropriate to use a chi-square test for analysis of statistics in the following topics?

•Number of Surgical Fatalities vs. U.S. State

•Number of professional men’s soccer injuries vs. country of their team

Although it woud not be a very powerful test, it could be used. It would be better if your hypotheses involved only specific states or countries rather than all of the places that have the data available.
