6y-2(y-4)

________
3

I keep gettin 4 but my teacher keeps telling me it is wrong. please help me

Is an equal sign missing? Are you to solve for y? If you post your work it would be easier for us to spot th error you are making, assuming you are making one.

Nobody responded to this one lol.

To simplify the expression (6y - 2(y - 4)) ÷ 3, we need to follow the order of operations, also known as PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction).

Step 1: Distribute the -2 to the terms inside the parentheses.

So, -2(y - 4) becomes -2y + 8.

Now the expression becomes (6y - 2y + 8) ÷ 3.

Step 2: Combine like terms within the numerator of the fraction.

6y - 2y becomes 4y.

The expression now simplifies to (4y + 8) ÷ 3.

Step 3: Divide both terms within the numerator by the denominator.

Dividing (4y + 8) by 3 gives us:

(4y ÷ 3) + (8 ÷3) = (4/3)y + (8/3)

So the simplified expression is (4/3)y + (8/3).

It seems that you obtained an incorrect answer of 4. Double-check your steps and make sure you distribute the -2 correctly and combine like terms appropriately.
