Could you image your son or daughter leaving you to fight in an international war as young as fifteen? Many parents would say that they would never let such a terrible thing happen. What if you didn’t have a say in this matter? What if your child was forced to partake in the war, what would you do then? Conscription, enforced military wartime, was one of the many struggles during the war. But don’t be mistaken, some volunteered to participate in the war. Many considered it a passage to manhood and a great honor to serve for their nation. When WW1 started in 1914, it was estimated to last one summer, and then everyone would return home. Unfortunately, that estimate was way off, and the war lasted for an awful 4 years (1914-1918).
World War One was considered one of the bloodiest wars ever taken place in history. A kind of war that everyone swore to never start again. A war so horrifying that it was called, “The War To End All Wars.” People wonder, what kind of crisis could start a war so great? A war so atrocious that it would result in over 19 million deaths.
Today, we pay a tribute to those soldiers who were killed in the line of duty during WW1. It takes true courage and outstanding bravery to jeopardize your own life in order to serve your country.
