2nd question

Flagpole is secured on opp. sides by 2 wires. each of which is 5 ft longer that the pole. Distance between the points where the wire are fixed = to the length of one wire. How tall us flagpole to nearest inch?

A diagram showing the flagpole, the two sides and the ground forms an equilateral triangle, with the flagpole rising from the middle of the base to the apex at the top. Each angle of the triangle is 60 degrees.

Let wire length = w and pole lendth = p
w = 5 + p
p = w cos 60 = w/2

Two equations for two unknowns. Take it from there.
