Why did the author write "I am the mummy" from the role of the mummy"

Please do not double post your questions. It makes for confusion.

I have not read this work, but I've read another that was written from the point of view of the dead main character: The Lovely Bones:

When an author does this, it could be so that he can tell the story from an omniscient 3rd person -- one who knows it all and is relating the story more completely to the readers.
