A first time car buyer is looking for a good used car to purchase. In addition to the cost of the car, there is a licensing fee of $140 and sales tax of 10% of the cost of the car. If the buyer only has $6740 to spend, what is the most expensive car that can be purchased?

After subtracting the licensing fee we get $6,600. Using the following equation, we can find the most expensive car he can afford. Let x = the price of the car.

1.1x = 6,600
