i was wondering if someone could check the answer i got for this math problem 7+2(5-2*9) = 243

I got -19

I think you're supposed to do the parentheses first...but within that, you're supposed to do the multiplication and THEN the subtraction, and then mult it by 2....then add the 7....someone could check me on that too..it's been a while since i took algebra

7+2(5-2*9)
7+2(5-18)
7+2(-13)
7-26
-19

7+2(5-2*9)
7+2(5-18)
7+2(-13)
7-26
-19

To solve this math problem, you need to follow the correct order of operations, which is also known as the PEMDAS acronym:

1. Parentheses: Solve any operations inside parentheses first.
2. Exponents: Simplify any exponent expressions.
3. Multiplication and Division: Perform any multiplication or division operations from left to right.
4. Addition and Subtraction: Perform any addition or subtraction operations from left to right.

Now let's use these steps to solve the problem:

Original expression: 7 + 2(5 - 2 * 9)

1. Parentheses: Start by solving the expression inside the parentheses.
5 - 2 * 9 --> 5 - 18 --> -13

Updated expression: 7 + 2(-13)

2. Multiplication: Multiply the 2 by the result of the expression inside the parentheses.
2 * (-13) --> -26

Updated expression: 7 + (-26)

3. Addition: Add 7 to the result of the multiplication.
7 + (-26) --> -19

Therefore, the correct answer is -19, which matches the result you obtained.

In summary, you correctly performed the order of operations by first solving the expression inside the parentheses, then performing the multiplication, and finally, the addition.
