does anyone know how to internally document a source from an anthology-- not a book in MLA format?

This site will give you the MLA FORMAT. Go down to the part on Anthology documenting.

I am asking you about the internal documentation though. The site you gave me only tells me about the documentation.

This site will help with both what you need on the Works Cited page as well as the internal documentation.

Hold your cursor over the words CITING SOURCES in the left column; then choose Essay in a collection. Whatever the form of the work (story, essay, poem, etc.), this will work.

To internally document a source from an anthology in MLA format, you can follow these steps:

1. Start by including the author's last name within your sentence or paraphrase. For example, "In the essay 'Title of the Essay' by Author's Last Name..."

2. If the author's last name is not mentioned in the sentence, you can include it in parentheses after the information you are citing. For example, "The essay 'Title of the Essay' discusses..."

3. Next, include the title of the work in quotation marks. For example, "In the essay 'Title of the Essay'..."

4. Provide the title of the anthology or collection in italics or underlined. For example, "In the essay 'Title of the Essay' from Anthology Title..."

5. Indicate the editor or editors of the anthology by including their names after the title of the anthology, preceded by "edited by." For example, "In the essay 'Title of the Essay' from Anthology Title, edited by Editor's Name..."

6. Finally, include the publication information for the anthology, including the publisher and year of publication. This information can typically be found on the title page or copyright page of the anthology. For example, "In the essay 'Title of the Essay' from Anthology Title, edited by Editor's Name, published by Publisher, [year of publication]."

Remember to use appropriate punctuation and formatting according to MLA guidelines.
