I found some links for the geological history for the appalachian mountains BUT it confuses me. Can you please simplify the formation of the Appalachian mountains?? please? thanks.

Basically the mountains were created due to the merging of the continents into Pangea. I know glaciation played a part in it too, but I can't really explain. Hopefully someone on the board can further explain things.

I apologize for the broken link and confusion. I'll explain the formation of the Appalachian Mountains in a simpler way.

The Appalachian Mountains were formed millions of years ago through a complex geological process. It all started when the supercontinent called Pangea began to break apart around 320 million years ago. As Pangea broke apart, the continent that eventually became North America collided with the continent that is now Africa.

During this collision, enormous pressure and heat caused the rocks on the edges of both continents to fold and buckle, forming large mountain ranges. These mountain ranges eventually became what we now know as the Appalachian Mountains.

After their formation, the Appalachian Mountains went through various stages of erosion and weathering due to rain, wind, and ice. Fast forward to around 20,000 years ago, during the last ice age, massive glaciers advanced and retreated over the region. This glaciation process further shaped the mountains, carving out valleys and creating the distinctive ridges and peaks we see today.

So, in summary, the Appalachian Mountains were formed by the collision of continents and then modified over millions of years by erosion and glaciation processes.
