“Six months at sea! Yes, reader, as I live, six months out of sight of land …” Herman Melville, wrote in the preface of his book Typee. From his life to his death, he wrote many great novels, books, and poems. From best sellers to American classics he wrote them all. An illness that lasted several months caused Melville to die in obscurity at his home in New York City. They found him early in the morning of September 28, 1891, at the age of 72. The New York Times listed his name in an obituary as "Henry Melville." He was bared in the Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx, New York.
