homework due by 8am on 2/26...spent too much time with bad websites....still no answers....need help with simple random sample...Have 460 clients...need SRS of 20 clients for survey...Have a number table to select sample from:13873 81598 95052 90908 73592 75186 87136 95761

Given these random digits from a teacher handout, how do I select clients in the order found in this table?????

What I would do with these random numbers is use them in groups of 3 or 2. If a 3-digit number fits within the range of 1-420, use that number. If it is outside of that range, just use two of the numbers. For example, 138, 73, 81....

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.

WOW! Great response time!!! At least you know what I'm talk about. Thank You! Ok, so I have 460 clients...how do I know if I should use 3 digits or 2 digits? Is it my choice or is there a formula? Thanks, Nancy

You're welcome, Nancy! I'm glad I could help.

To determine whether you should use 3 digits or 2 digits for your random numbers, you need to consider the range of clients you have. Since you have 460 clients, you need to find the maximum number that can be represented using 3 digits (from 000 to 999) that is still within the range of your clients.

In this case, your maximum number would be 460, so any 3-digit number greater than that wouldn't be valid for selecting clients. Therefore, you would use 2 digits for any random numbers that are greater than 460. For example, if you have a random number like 735, that is larger than 460, so you would only consider the first two digits, which would be 73.

To summarize, if the first digit of your 3-digit random number is within the range of your clients (1-4), you would use all 3 digits. Otherwise, for the first digit being 5-9, you would use the first two digits only.

I hope this clarifies how to determine whether to use 3 digits or 2 digits for your random numbers. Let me know if you have any further questions!
