COMPOUND 1

CH2=CH-CH-OH
________|
_______CH3

COMPOUND 2
_____________O
____________//
CH3-CH-CH2-C
_____|______\
____CH3______OH

*Now, I must: Identify any functional groups in these compounds and name them.

The functional group in 1 is the OH which makes it an alcohol. (It is a primary alcohol, by the way.)
In two, the functional group is the COOH group on the end which makes it an acid. I can't tell where the CH3 group is in #2 but it isn't a functional group, anyway.

in 2, the CH3 is under the 2nd CH (the one found in between the CH3 & CH2)...

Could you pls help me with the next part as well.

From the above compounds:
Complete the equation for reaction by drawing the abbreviated structural formula(e) of the product(s) of this reaction..... I must also identify any new functional groups in the organic product(s).

The final compound created from this reaction is tocainide.

i need to know all aboutHomozygous Dominant X HETEROZYGOUS

i needed to know all about Homozygous Dominant X Homozygous Reccessive. BUT THEY DIDN'T HELP ME AND IM ONLEY 11 YRS OLD. SO WHO EVER COMES TO THIS WWEBSITE I ASUREY YOUR THAD THEY WONT HELP YOU AS THEY DID WIIEE T MME. SO I WHANTED TO THINK THEEY OPPOSITE SO PLEASE EXCUSE THEM

Sorry Karen,

Firstly, I do not think an 11 year-old would need to know of this - or should care to know of this.

Secondly, you keep putting this into my question which I am trying to sort out and understand myself!!!

I don't know enough about organic chemistry to know how you get from what you have to tocainide but I looked up tocainide in The Merck Index. It has an amino group (-NH2) as one functional group and an amide (-CONHR) as another functional group. The amide is a secondary amide. It has a -C=O and coming from the C is the N-H with an (Ar-in this case a benzene ring) attached to it.

I apologize for any confusion caused. Let's clarify and address your questions one by one.

1. Identifying Functional Groups and Naming Compounds:
In Compound 1, the functional group is the OH group attached to the carbon chain, making it an alcohol. Specifically, it is a primary alcohol since the OH group is attached to a carbon with only one other carbon atom. The compound's name is 3-hydroxypropene.

In Compound 2, the functional group is the COOH (carboxylic acid) group at the end of the chain. The compound's name is 3-methylbutanoic acid. The CH3 group you mentioned is attached to the second carbon in the chain, but it is not a functional group in this case.

2. Drawing the Product of the Reaction:
To accurately determine the product(s) of the reaction, it would be helpful to know the reaction conditions and any specific reagents involved. Without this information, it is difficult to provide an accurate answer. However, if you can provide more details, I can help guide you through the process of drawing the product(s) and identifying any new functional groups.

3. Homozygous Dominant and Homozygous Recessive:
Homozygous Dominant refers to an individual who has two copies of the same dominant allele for a specific gene. An allele is a variant form of a gene. In this case, both copies of the gene are the same and represent the dominant trait. For example, if we consider eye color, an individual with two copies of the dominant allele for brown eyes (B) would be homozygous dominant (BB).

Homozygous Recessive refers to an individual who has two copies of the same recessive allele for a specific gene. In this case, both copies of the gene are the same and represent the recessive trait. Using the eye color example again, an individual with two copies of the recessive allele for blue eyes (b) would be homozygous recessive (bb).

It is important to note that these terms are related to genetics and not organic chemistry. If you have any specific questions about genetics or need further clarification, please let me know.
