what are the properties of a solid - this is for 5th grade

the state in which a substance has no tendency to flow under moderate stress; resists forces (such as compression) that tend to deform it; and retains a definite size and shape

Solids have a definite shape, and a definate volume. Their particles are close together. Particles move slowest in a solid than in any other state of matter.
