can someone find identify one chemical reaction that C4H4O4 is involved in. Or the synthesis of the compound?

C4H4O4 is a formula that applies to both maleic and fumaric acid. A synthesis reaction of reaction of maleic acid is:

Maleic acid anhydride + water => maleic acid

C4H2O3 + H2O -> C4H4O4
