Homework Help: Math

Posted by Gina on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 7:17pm.

I do not understand this at all. Can someone please show all the steps sp I am able to comprehend:

Four points are on a line segemnts, as shown. If AB:BC=1:2 and BC:CD=8:5, then AB:BD equals what?

Assume CD = 1
Then, BC = 8.5. and AB == 10.2.
Therefore, AB/BD = 10.2/9.5 = 1.07368.

Assume CD to be anything you want and follow the same steps which will lead you to the same result.
