who is the father of modern day periodic based on x-ray diffraction? Isn't the answer Dmitri Mendleev Mendeleev is given the most credit for initial development of the modern periodic table but Meyer developed a periodic table about the same time. Both were based on atomic masses. Neither, however, was based on x-ray diffraction for that was unknown at the time. Moseley is the one who showed that the table increased as a function of atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus) and not atomic mass. As Bob Pursley pointed out in an earlier post today, however, Moseley had no illusions about being "father" of the modern periodic table and I have never seen that in print either.

Ionization potential decreases as we go from top to bottom and from left to right on the peridic table. Electronegativity decreases as go from top to bottom and left to right. Electron affinity is essentially the reverse of EN.

I did EN wrong. EN decreases from top to bottom and from right to left. I didn't proof until I had posted.
