Write one or two equations to represent the situation below. Solve the equation(s). Show all your work.

Two cars leave town going in opposite directions. The car heading north travels at 55 mph. The car heading south travels at 75 mph. How long will it take them to get 715 miles apart?

Hello again..isnt that the same equation i did before? it will be probaly 5 and a half hours im guessing because its the same sum only you have to put the answer in hour terms and .5 is half and hour.

To represent the situation mathematically, we can use the equation:

55t + 75t = 715

where t represents the time in hours it takes for the two cars to get 715 miles apart.

To solve this equation, combine like terms:

130t = 715

Next, isolate t by dividing both sides of the equation by 130:

t = 715 / 130

Now, we can calculate the value of t:

t ≈ 5.5

Therefore, it will take approximately 5.5 hours for the cars to get 715 miles apart.
