has anyone read Richard Cory?

if anyone has, tell me why cory shot himself in the head.

im really wondering about that.

Just because you are rich and educated does not exempt you from depression. In other words happiness does not equate to wealth, beauty, and education. Often those types hide their depression exceptionally well until they take their own life.

The point of the poem is that no one ever knew why he killed himself -- and as Lance points out, our assumptions about others don't always bear out. One such assumption is that money buys happiness.

=)

thanks so much.
i feel so clear.

You're welcome! I'm glad I could provide you with some clarity. The poem "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson explores the concept that appearances can be deceiving. Richard Cory, a wealthy and educated man, is admired and envied by the townspeople. However, at the end of the poem, Cory takes his own life, leaving the townspeople shocked and puzzled. The reason for his suicide is not explicitly stated in the poem, which adds to the mystery and the lesson that appearances can be misleading.
