"JOHN DECIDES HE DOESn'T WANT TO WORK, HE TURNS OFF HIS LIGHT AND LEAVES. 200 PEOPLE DIE. WHAT WAS HIS JOB?"

to turn off the light and leave

The man who runs a lighthouse.

You're missing the part of the story where the man is watching the news saying a ship crashed in a storm and THEN the 200 people died part.

It was his job to turn on the light so that the ship could make it through the storm and he didn't turn the light on so they died.

oh never mind.

The way I heard it was different, but the storm part is the reason why the 200 people died.
