Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me understand this writing prompt. I'm not sure If I'm supposed to talk about the characters' different points of view in some goals toward achieving sucess or if I'm supposed to tell what each characters' goals were.

While the American Dream and the concept of success inherently differ from individual to individual, some goals remain constant. In a well-organized essay, discuss both Gatsby’s and Carraway’s perspective of the goals towards success.

Does this thesis answer the prompt?

Although Gatsby and Carraway were two completely different characters, their points of view of the goals toward achieving the American dream were similar in the way that both believed that attaining happiness was fundamental, that being economically settled was essential and that improving one’s self was important in order to be succesful.

Although Gatsby and Carraway were two completely different characters, their points of view regarding achieving the American dream were similar: Both believed that attaining happiness was fundamental, that being economically settled was essential, and that improving oneself was important in order to be succesful.

Good thesis statement. I made a few technical corrections.

It seems to me that the point of the assignment is to do BOTH of the things in your first question posted -- that is, you need to write about each character's goals AND about each one's viewpoint about achieving those goals.

=)

Thank you :-) I really appreciate it!!!! :-)

You're very welcome. Now go get an A!!
