Is there an easier way to understand how to convert gallons to liters I am having problems understanding the whole metric conversion process.

I don't know what method you are using so I don't know if I know an easier one or not. I suspect you are using the dimensional method but don't confuse conversions of the type you mention with the adaptability of the metric system. I suspect your trouble is not so much with the metric system as it is with convering from the English system (gallons) to the metric system (liters). Post a problem with which you are having trouble, then explain in detail why you don't understand the next step to take. We can take it from there.
