at one point in time native americans were called Marginal Americans does anyone know why? Please help

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. The term "Marginal Americans" refers to those considered outsiders: ethnic minorities, the poor, the disabled, and so many others--all living on the margins of mainstream society. It seems a misnomer, doesn't it, since the native americans are the FIRST Americans!
