Posted by tonya on Friday, September 1, 2006 at 6:18pm.

what is 4(j)-7=9

Do you mean simply
4*j - 7 = 9?
If so, add 7 to both sides to get
4*j = 16
Now divide both sides by 4 to get
j = 16/4

Thank thank you so much I came up with the same answer.
